The New Regional Coordinator (RCO)
Prof. Joseph Obua holds a B.Sc. Forestry (Hons) from Makerere University and both M.Sc. (Environmental Forestry) and PhD from the University of Wales, UK. He has been Head of Department for Forest Biology & Ecosystems Management in the Faculty of Forestry & Nature Conservation at Makerere University since 1999. Up to the time of his appointment, he was a member of the VicRes Scientific Advisory Committee (VicSac). He is a distinguished researcher, research supervisor and administrator. He has supervised over 40 M.Sc. and 10 PhD theses in the last 10 years and published over 50 scientific papers in international journals. He is a peer reviewer of several journals and Chairs a number of Boards of Governmental and Non-Governmental Institutions. He is married and is blessed with 3 children.

Deputy Regional Coordinator (DRCO)
Dr.  Sylvance O. Okoth has been appointed the Deputy Regional Coordinator for Lake Victoria Research Initiative (VicRes). Dr. Okoth holds B. Ed (Biology), MSc (Entomology) and PhD (Medical Entomology) from Kenyatta University, Kenya. He served as Research Assistant at the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) for 2 years, Research Scientist at Kenya Trypanosomiasis Research Institute (KETRI) for 7 years and as Senior Research Scientist at Trypanosomiasis Research Centre of the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI-TRC) for 5 years. At the time of his appointment, Dr. Okoth was the Head of Department for Vector Management at KARI-TRC. He has been a science editor in two international journals for 6 years and has widely published scientific articles in peer reviewed journal. He has also presented papers in various scientific conferences and workshops. Dr. Okoth is married and is blessed with 4 children. 

Information and Communication Officer (ICO)
Mr. Aristarik Hubert Maro assumed his duties as the new Information and Communication Officer of the Lake Victoria Research Initiative (VicRes). Mr. Maro holds a Bachelor of Library and Information Science (Hons) from Makerere University and M.A. (Information Studies) from the University Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He has been Head of Department of Reader and Technical Services and Coordinator for the Preparation of Bachelor Degree in Library and Information Science in a Distance Mode Programme at the Open University of Tanzania since 2007. He has also been an Assistant Lecturer at Tumaini University Dar es Salaam College since 2005. Up to the time of his appointment, he was a member of the Standing Committee on ICT and Library Education in East Africa at IUCEA. He is married and blessed with 2 children. 

Programme Accountant - VicRes
Ms. Nightingale Mirembe Ssenoga holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Economics and Psychology from Makerere University & a member ACCA Professional body. She is currently undertaking an MBA with the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. She has been with VicRes as Accountant since 2004. She has also worked as Accounting Software Executive at Syscorp International (U) Ltd where she was in charge of Needs assessment of clients, installations and training of users of the software. She was Bursar of Namasagali College between 1998 and 2002. She is married and has 3 children
