Land Use Options

LAST UPDATE 2010-01-14
Changes in land use is a key driver of many environmental changes, thus there is
a close link between land use, environment and natural resources. The projects in
this cluster are based on the premise that the impacts of land use changes on the
environment and natural resources often occur so subtly that managers and users
of resources hardly initiate mitigation measures. Poor land use degrades land and
affects agricultural production, food security and livelihoods of the local communities
in the Lake Victoria Basin. Research activities in this cluster are aimed at
identifying optimal land use options that embrace effective land use planning.
